Easy Puff Pastry Swirl Mince Pies



Alex adores mince pies. He can get through a box of Mr Kipling's in two days. So every year, on Christmas eve, I make him some special homemade ones, they're also great for a simple Christmas gathering treat or even to leave out for Santa!





This is a bit of a mix of a few recipes I've come across to make something entirely new, but I thought I'd share it with any other mince pie fanatics out there!

INGREDIENTS: 

2 jars of good quality mince meat
1 packet of puff pastry
Zest of one orange
2 tbsp icing sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Handful of flaked almonds



METHOD:

Start by rolling out your puff pastry and spreading your mince meat evenly across the entire surface. Sprinkle the orange zest on top and roll from the longest edge, like you would a Swiss roll. Pop this in the fridge to set for around 20 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 200C

Cut your puff pastry roll into 12 equal pieces and place each swirl on a lined baking sheet. Take your time, this can get fiddly Place them in the oven for around 25 minutes, or until the puff pastry has puffed up and turned golden brown.

Once cooked, remove from the oven and the tray asap. You'll want to do this while your pies are still hot because once the mince meat cools, it'll become super sticky and impossible to get out in one piece, so have a plate ready.

Mix your cinnamon and icing sugar together and sprinkle on top. Finish off with a handful of flaked almonds.




They aren't particularly pretty, but in my mums words 'the uglier the mince pie, the better the taste!' I hope you enjoy this super easy recipe!
