Cheesy Garlic Swirls

By Abbie Day - December 01, 2019

'Ts the season for fun, laughter and social gatherings! We have so many meet ups with friends coming up over the holidays and a lot of the time, I hate arriving empty handed. Being a new mum, finding time to make a special yummy treat can be tricky!  But I have a full proof, crowd pleaser that you can prep ahead of time and only takes 20 minutes to cook!

These cheesy garlic swirls are the perfect savoury treat! They're like an extra special alternative to garlic bread. I've had so many people ask for the recipe, I figure I'd share it with everyone right here!

1 packet of ready to roll Puff Pastry
200g Grated Cheese - I love using Red Leicester, but Cheddar works just as well!
2tsp Garlic Puree
2tbsp Butter
2tsp Oregano

Unroll your puff pastry but leave it on the baking paper - this will come in handy in just a second!

In a small bowl, mix together your butter, garlic puree and oregano until you have a smooth, well mixed paste. Using the back of  a spoon, smooth your mix over the puff pastry evenly. Make sure you spread the mix right to the edges, this helps to make sure all of your swirls are evenly flavoured!

Sprinkle the cheese of your choice over the pastry, again make sure you spread it as evenly as possible!

Once you're happy, get rollin'! You'll want to roll the pastry from the longest side, this way you can get more rolls that aren't too thick, think Swiss roll and you'll be on the right track! This is were the baking paper comes in handy - use the paper to wrap the roll and place it in the fridge to firm up for at least 20 minutes - you can do all of this ahead of time too, I tend to do it the night before or while Axel naps.

When you're ready to bake your swirls, preheat your oven to 200C/ 400◦F take your roll out of the fridge and cut it into 12 equal pieces. Now place them evenly on a baking tray lined with grease proof paper (I tend to use that same piece, waste not want not!) and bake for 20 minutes.

Ta-dah! Beautifully buttery cheesy garlic swirls! I have never had so many complements on a dish that is so easy to create!
